About the Game
Bayonetta 2 brings PlatinumGames’ fast, expressive combat to Wii U in a sequel built around spectacle, precision and replayable score chasing. When Jeanne’s soul is dragged into Inferno, Bayonetta sets out to recover it, crossing the sacred mountain of Fimbulventr while clashes between Paradiso and Inferno spill into the human world. The story moves quickly through city streets, airborne set pieces and otherworldly realms, pairing extravagant action with the series’ irreverent tone.
Gameplay & Progression
Combat links punches, kicks, gunfire and equipped weapons into flowing combinations. A last-second dodge triggers Witch Time, slowing enemies long enough to reposition or extend a combo. Bayonetta can spend a full magic gauge on Umbran Climax, temporarily strengthening her attacks with summoned demonic limbs. Encounters reward timing, variety and avoiding damage, then grade performance with medals that encourage repeat runs. Hidden Muspelheim challenges, collectibles and optional battles reward careful exploration between the major fights, while earned currency unlocks techniques, weapons and accessories that support different play styles.
Wii U Features & Current Play
The Wii U edition supports traditional button controls as well as an optional touch-control scheme on the GamePad, and it can be played away from the television through Off-TV Play. Its campaign and local progression remain offline experiences for one player. The original Tag Climax mode offered two-player online cooperative battles, but Nintendo ended official Wii U online play on April 8, 2024, so that mode is no longer available through Nintendo’s service. The Wii U eShop also no longer accepts new purchases; this physical disc remains the practical way to play this edition on original hardware.
