FIFA Built Around the Wii U GamePad
FIFA Soccer 13 brings EA Canada's club soccer simulation to Wii U with a version designed around the console's second screen. On the pitch, the traditional controls cover short and lofted passes, through balls, crosses, sprinting, skill moves, standing and sliding tackles, finesse shots, and chips. The GamePad adds optional touch passing and shooting: tap a teammate or open space to place a pass, or call up a view of the goal and touch the target area to aim a shot. Set pieces can use the GamePad as a closer aiming view, while standard button controls remain available.
Manage the Match Without Pausing
The GamePad's Manager Central view turns the second screen into a live tactical board. Direct supporting runs, select defenders, check team or individual statistics, make substitutions, change formations, adjust attacking or defensive mentality, and assign man marking while play continues on the television. At halftime, team talks can affect morale and provide a temporary boost when the message fits the situation. The same management tools support a distinctive local co-op setup: as many as four players control footballers on the pitch while a fifth participant uses the GamePad as manager.
Careers, Tournaments, and Virtual Pro
Career mode supports three paths. Build a created or existing player into a star, combine playing and lineup duties as a player-manager, or run the club from the sideline as a manager. The management layer covers budgets, transfers, negotiations, player contracts, scouting, a youth academy, form, fitness, morale, board expectations, and job reputation. A Virtual Pro can improve through offline accomplishments and appear in Kick-Off, Tournament, and Career play. More than 50 built-in tournaments are documented in the manual, and Create Tournament can produce league, knockout, or group-and-knockout formats. Be a Pro player and goalkeeper options, an open Practice Arena, and custom set-piece practice round out the offline package.
An Exact Wii U Edition
This release should not be described as feature-identical to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 versions. Contemporary Wii U reviews confirm that it does not include Ultimate Team or EA Sports Football Club, and its gameplay foundation differs from the headline FIFA 13 feature set marketed for other consoles. Its tradeoff is the Wii U-specific touch interface, off-TV play, quick tactical management, and up-to-five-player local co-op. The roster, kits, and league data are a snapshot of the 2012 season and are not current.
Offline Play Remains; Online Play Does Not
The disc's local matches, careers, tournaments, practice, and local multiplayer do not require an online service. EA's official shutdown list records the Wii U version's online services as discontinued on July 3, 2017, so Seasons, online friendlies, matchmaking, messaging, and upload features must not be advertised as available. Only the Wii U GamePad and Wii U Pro Controller are officially supported by the manual, and additional controllers are needed for local multiplayer.
