About the Game
Super R.C. Pro-Am turns radio-controlled car racing into a contest of cornering, pickups and interference from the other drivers. Four cars share the circuit, with computer racers filling the opposition during solo play. The action follows small cars around a scrolling track viewed at an angle, so bends, scattered equipment and rival vehicles occupy the same compact stretch of road. You are trying to keep your own car moving through that traffic while building it into a better racer.
The steering follows the car's orientation: left and right turn the vehicle itself, while B accelerates and A uses the current weapon. That makes a hairpin a matter of judging how far to rotate the car before the next straight. Oil can send it skidding, puddles and sand cost speed, and cones obstruct the route. Taking a pickup may require leaving the cleanest line through a corner, especially when another driver is heading for the same item.
Missiles and bombs let you disrupt the field instead of relying entirely on overtaking. Ammunition is limited, and unspent weapons carry between races. A roll cage gives temporary protection against crashes while spinning; speed strips provide a short burst of pace. Those temporary advantages sit alongside lasting equipment improvements. Tires affect handling, motors improve maximum speed and batteries affect acceleration, so the items collected on the circuit change different aspects of the car rather than adding a single generic power boost.
The larger progression goal is to assemble the letters in NINTENDO. Completing the word upgrades you to a faster car with better handling, and repeating the process leads through the stronger car types toward the championship trophy. It gives letter pickups a purpose beyond the current finishing position: a detour that risks this race can contribute to the vehicle you will use later. The monochrome racing screen also shows the track and lap, speed, collected letters and weapon supply, keeping the championship chase visible during play.
In the solo sequence, finishing first, second or third advances you to another track; last place ends the run unless you spend a limited continue. Extra-continue pickups can extend that attempt, while finishing within the bonus time adds to the score. The immediate target is therefore survival through the races as well as outright wins. Between the changing circuit layout, component pickups and letter collection, improvement comes from learning where to steer and which items are worth contesting.
Local multiplayer uses linked Game Boy systems. A two-player race requires two systems, two Super R.C. Pro-Am cartridges and a compatible Game Link cable, with two computer cars completing the field. For three or four human players, each participant needs a system and cartridge, and the setup uses the Game Boy Four Player Adapter with the required Game Link cables. These are separate hardware requirements for linked play; solo racing works with one system and one copy.
