Mario Catches an Airborne Puzzle
Yoshi turns familiar Mario enemies into falling puzzle pieces. Goombas, Bloopers, Boo Buddies and other shapes descend toward four trays, with Mario underneath ready to shuffle them. Matching two of the same kind makes the pair disappear; allowing a pile to reach the top ends the game.
Move the Trays Instead of the Pieces
Left and Right position Mario beneath neighboring trays. A or B swaps the two he is holding, moving their entire stacks into different columns. The falling pieces keep their own paths, so you arrange what waits below them rather than steering every arrival. Down makes the pieces fall faster.
A bottom eggshell can sit below a stack until a top half arrives. Bring the halves into the same column to complete the egg and remove the enemies caught between them. A larger group earns a better hatching reward, giving you a reason to plan an egg around the pieces already collected.
Score Runs or Clear the Screen
A-Type is the score challenge, continuing until the stacks cross the top line. Successful matches and progress increase the pace. B-Type begins with enemies already piled on the trays and asks you to clear the screen; further stages add more pieces to work through.
Starting difficulty and falling speed are separate choices. Low and High speed let you set the response time, while the starting level affects the challenge within the chosen mode. The preview above the playfield gives a look at the next falling set, helping you decide which trays to exchange.
Small Sprites, Hatching Rewards and Local Play
The monochrome screen keeps the enemy stacks, eggshells and Mario's tray positions easy to follow. Short hatching animations show the Yoshi created by an egg, and electronic music and effects accompany the shuffling. The familiar characters give each falling shape an identity within the compact puzzle view.
Two-player Game Link contests require two Game Boy systems, two Yoshi Game Paks and a Game Link cable. Players compete to clear their trays, with three victory eggs deciding the match. Capturing enemies between eggshell halves can send extra characters into the opponent's field.
This is the original Nintendo Game Boy cartridge version. Its North American package advertises one- or two-player games and shows the handheld's monochrome falling-piece puzzles.
